On Monday morning, Mayor Bowser stated, “Five years ago, we set the ambitious goal of hitting 36,000 homes by 2025 and today we hit that goal.” The successful completion of this goal means that over 65,000 residents are now living in new homes across the city, transforming communities and providing much-needed housing.
Of the 36,000 units produced, approximately 9,845 are affordable housing units, achieving 82% of the city’s goal for affordable housing production, which stands at 12,000 units.
The mayor’s office expects to meet the affordable housing target by 2025, with 2,500 affordable units under construction.
